I've "learned" that in the old days (when everything was black and white) that men often proposed to women before or after their first kiss.

- which often took place just after he'd removed her spectacles and said 'Why, you're beautiful!'. Though oddly enough she never responded with 'Why, you're all blurry!'

Similarly, what I learned was that if you remove your glasses, everyone will be amazed at your beauty.

My laser eye surgery was, as a result, a bit disappointing.

Got it! The first Star Wars movie, right?

No, from The Empire Strikes Back.

That "double dipping" is virtually mandatory, where 'consolation' ice cream is concerned.

Also: beautiful, skinny, young women always eat from the tub, straight from the freezer.

Very true.  I've never quite figured out how to do the bobby pin trick but it seems to work every time in the movies.

That’s one of the things I loved about Auntie Mame. The secretary did have awful hair and the squinting to see was not attractive.

That superheroes from other planets can hide their secret identity with a simple pair of glasses and no one ever notices that said superhero seems to show up when their alter ego happens to be in the vicinity of horrific evens.

That nobody ever turns their basement light on to go look for something. Even if you don't hear mysterious noises or think there's an attacker in the house, basements are dark. It is dangerous to walk down stairs in the dark in the real world. Also, there are spiders.

In fairness, you wouldn't believe how many people failed to recognise me without my glasses. The world is full of Lois Lanes.

That was something I loved about "The Conjuring". When people are investigating noises around the house, they switch the lights on. Of course, they also shout out things like "Who is that?" which is probably a bad move if you actually think there is somebody in your house.
