No politics or inflammatory discussion please
« on: September 19, 2019, 12:40:54 am »
I removed several posts in the Chicken sandwich thread because politics was brought into it.

Just because something has a political aspect doesn't mean you have to bring it up.

Saying you boycott something for political reasons is a political statement.  And in and of itself, it's nothing.  But, it opens the door for other comments.  And it's not really fair when one person brings it up and then everyone else has to refrain from adding on to the conversation in that direction.

Just don't go there.  Most of you didn't and I appreciate that!!!

Essentially, I don't want any kind of political/inflammatory discussion that might attract the kind of attention that could not only tear this place apart but put me at the center of some very unwanted attention.

It seems to me that we live in a time where if you on the wrong side of someone's argument, they are not content to live and let live, but rather seek to destroy.  And agreeing is not always enough as you are then expected to crush/mute/censor the opponent.

That's the main reason for the rule along with the added benefit that it's nice to have a politics free zone.

And I realize that it sounds very dramatic and far fetched.  But, I don't care how far fetched it might be.  I am most comfortable with zero chance.

You're free to re-discuss topics that were allowed but considered inflammatory on the old board like whether someone can expect others to take their shoes off when entering someone else's home.

That was a hotly debated topic.  But, it's ok to discuss it here because it's not the kind of inflammatory that will attract the outside attention that I want to avoid.  It was somewhat unique to the ehell community.

Hopefully this helps everyone understand where I'm coming from.

I agree, too.  Topics and opinions will range broadly enough without politics.  Thanks for fostering open discussions on etiquette.

eHell was a daily source of knowledge, inspiration and engaging dialog, and I love how this community is continuing to guide and advise folks as boorish as I was (& still can be at times) to be more thoughtful.

I belong to several Science Pages on Facebook. Whenever politics or religion are brought up it ALWAYS turns into a monkeys slinging you know what at each other argument. Thanks for doing your best to keep that nonsense off BMB.
