DONE!!!!

Woo hoo. I got home from church, and just kept plugging away. By 8:30, I really wanted to quit but I only had two seams left to sew and press so I kept going. It turned out pretty good. Now all I have to do is make the binding (which will be the dark green), and see if I have enough fabric for the back. Then we have to find someone to quilt it as I can't fling big quilts around on the sewing machine any more. I made the Mountie silhouette block.

Pattycake,
That is so gorgeous, I'm tearing up just looking at it, I don't know why, but I hope whoever receives this has the gut reaction that I did.

Aw, that's sweet - thanks!

I don't remember if I mentioned before, so sorry if this is a repeat of info, but it's for the family of a Mountie that died in tragic circumstances (not in the line of duty.) I hope they love it as a remembrance of him and that it will bring them great comfort.

That one warms my heart, too. We used to have a huge party on St. Pat Day so I love seeing that quilt.

Quilt top is pinned to backing. I have the stencil I plan to use; it is hearts. I'm going to do it as a diagonal. from corner to corner. One row will be up and the next row will be down.

I went to the public library today and had the help of 3 women who had gotten the meeting room for themselves. You can not close out anyone who wants to come in, as per library policy, but these women went out of their way to be kind and helpful! Already thinking of a way to say thank you to them.

I may clear off the table tonight and start marking the pattern to quilt.  Or not. Still trying to decide.

I got the back done for the green quilt, here's a picture! It looks like a top! I don't usually do "back art" because really it takes too much time and effort, and isn't seen much. But for this one, I was trying to use up the fabric they sent me before delving into my stash. I already had the strips of 1" squares sewn, so it was a matter of figuring out how much of the other fabric I had and how best to cut it. I incorporated the label into the backing as I didn't think I would have enough fabric. But due to mistakes design changes, I managed to pull it off, and I even had some of the ugly light green left over! Unfortunately it wasn't enough to go all the way across the bottom. Oh well.

I also managed to finish the back for Charlie's quilt, and make the binding, so my goal this coming week is to get it quilted, and to get his and his girl cousin's quilts in the mail. Neither has arrived yet (the girl cousin's mom and dad aren't announcing the name yet) so hopefully the quilts will arrive just in time.

Last night I realized that I didn't have what I needed to trace the stencil. So this morning, DH dropped me off at Joann's and I bought a set of 4 pens that erase with heat. (It says iron, but the women I worked with yesterday said the dryer would be more efficient. So I'm going to go make a test /sample on scraps and see what works.) They also suggested doing my quilting on a diagonal, which means I will do the hardest part first, which sounds excellent to me! I'm off to see how much I get done today.

Please please please tell me they are NOT Frixion pens!! They do NOT reliably remove the marks! Here is a post that references talking to the actual manufacturer of the pens, and they were NOT made to be used on fabric.

They did recommend those to me, but I didn't see them. So I bought a different set. Tried them and didn't like the stencil. More work than I felt comfortable with. So I ended up doing diagonal straight lines. I've finished the quilting. Hurrah!  I'm going to work on the binding tomorrow.  I made the part of the quilt that says who the quilt was made for and that it was made by me. I washed the "tag" to make sure that the ink didn't run. As soon as I get the binding on, I'll wash it to get the pen marks out. I'm praying that they come out as well as the sample did.

Thank you for the warning about the Frixion pens! After reading the article you linked to, I will say that I'm amazed that anyone is still selling them for use with fabric and that anyone is still buying them. Although I probably would have, if I'd seen them as they were recommended by those sweet quilters. I'll be passing on the information to them when I see them again.

Off to see if I can get up the energy to work on binding.

Glad to hear you didn't find them! I have pointed it out to other quilt shops, and they have basically said, "oh?." I hope your ladies pay attention!

You're doing great on your quilt. My little quilt for Charlie is stalled until I can get to quilt group next week as I don't have room here to layer it. Then I must get it done next week and in the mail, if we don't have a mail strike here (Canada).

Having mailed packages through Canada Post, it really won't be that much more to use a courier.  Unless it can fit through their letter slot, packages are ridiculously expensive; I can mail a package to California cheaper than I can mail a package to Calgary.

I live out in the country though, and don't get to where there are couriers very often. If they go on strike, the worst that happens is the quilts are late (two cousins being born within a couple of weeks!), though I would like them to arrive before the babies.

I am overjoyed to announce that I got the binding made and onto the denim quilt! Then DH took me to the Laundromat and I got it washed and mostly dried. It is currently in our drier. In a bit of happy news, the pens I used on the quilt did come out! Dh made dinner and I washed up. I may not do anything else for a month!

Yay! Glad to hear the marks came out. I don't blame ya if you don't do anything for a while, a denim quilt is quite the production.
