I wouldn't invite Otto any more.

Life in General / Re: WHAT is that person doing?
« on: April 20, 2024, 03:33:34 pm »
I was at a work related luncheon. The "gentleman" next to me (a physician) proceeded to vigorously blow his nose on his handkerchief and then return it to his pocket. He then said, "Your pie looks so delicious! Do you mind if I just have a bite?" I shoved it toward him and told him to just take the whole thing!

"If you don't mind, I'm not comfortable having people in my yard when I am not home. It's a liability thing, you know."

Take your Blackstone Grill/griddle and use it to cook all meals. For breakfast - pancake, eggs, bacon, toast, sausage, ham, hashbrowns, smashed cinnamon rolls. Items that can be cooked in a pan on it are grits, oatmeal or biscuits.

For lunch and dinner - burgers, hotdogs, Philly cheesesteak, quesadillas, fajitas, stir fry, steaks, shrimp, etc. Pans on the griddle can cook baked beans, fried fish/chicken, mac n' cheese.

I get a lot of good ideas from a Blackstone Grilling group on FB.

Another idea - have one meal (lunch?) where everyone fixes their own sandwiches with fixings you have provided.

Holidays / Happy Mother's Day
« on: May 06, 2022, 12:59:57 pm »
This is what I got from my daughter -
Daughter: "Sorry, I won't be able to get you a gift for Mother's Day due to low funds."
Me: That's ok. Just come and visit.
Daughter: "Can't afford the gas because husband took off a week last week so we could go on a cruise."
Me: SMH.  :o

Life in General / Re: Does My Refuse/Recycle Bin Offend You?
« on: April 11, 2022, 03:12:42 pm »
I was driving through an area neighborhood last week and noted the problem of bins in the street. My thinking is to notify your city or county officials and have them ask waste management to return the bins to the sidewalk. Aside from a strong wind, the binds shouldn't be in the street.
In your case, I wouldn't like to see or smell someone else's garbage bin. Perhaps contact your HOA about these being placed in the backyard by a certain time after pickup?

Weddings / Re: Son is engaged! Advice requested
« on: March 21, 2022, 07:49:21 pm »
You can really only control what you wear and even that may need to be approved by the bride. I suggest you back slowly out of ANY planning of this wedding and leave it up to the bride and groom. You are just a guest. By the way, why would you pay anything on a second wedding. Etiquette says that is entirely up to the bride and groom.

Since this is an etiquette page, I think, when you have a guest, you are required to entertain that guest - even if it's your mother. Would you do this to her at your home? Bless her heart - you're going to miss her when she's gone.

Family and Children / Re: The More the Merrier?

Your "beef" (complaint) is with your sister, not the child. Please don't begrudge the visiting child a bit of pleasure. I would be up to you, the host, to see that everyone's needs were met. Honestly, sounds like a case of jealously to me.

I'm interested in an update when you decide what you are going to do. Personally, I would cancel (blame Covid) and reschedule later with just the guests I wanted to attend.

Life in General / Re: Is it rude to be too early?
« on: March 20, 2021, 01:05:04 pm »
I think, if you are meeting in a restaurant, your friend is rude to arrive 45-1 hr early. The waiters depend on their tables turning over for tips and, if she just sits there for an hour, they are losing out. This wouldn't be a factor at a coffee shop or she could sit in her car until almost time for the appointment. You, on the other hand, why are you always late? My sister is like this and she admitted it's her way of "controlling the situation". She doesn't like other people telling her what to do.

Weddings / Re: Honorary Flower Girl - Sorta?

A lot of good advice here. (Where were y'all when I was raising my daughter?!) Perhaps she would enjoy a pretend wedding using her dolls where she gets to be their flower girl? You could even film it for her.

Family and Children / Re: You want the money? Fill out the forms!
« on: June 10, 2020, 07:40:11 pm »
If you don't have to have 100% of everyone's paperwork to get your own distribution, I'd say send a certified letter saying, "here's what you have to do to get your $____. I've provided instructions; if you have any questions, contact the annuity company or the Financial Advisor - here's their info. You're an adult now - the rest is up to you."

And set a deadline.

The Work Day / Re: Aaaand another meeting almost missed.

I read a letter in Ask A Manager that was similar. Why are you working for a company that laid you off? You need a guarantee in writing that they will hire you back. Otherwise, I wouldn't do work for them.
