I'm confused.  Did he call the police police or the transit police?  Because the transit police are actually there specifically to enforce stuff like that -- graffiti, fare jumping, etc.  The actual police shouldn't be involved in something this tiny.

Mel, did you catch a Kangaskhan?? I’m so jealous! The US regional Pokémon are not nearly as cool

Hee, yup. They’re everywhere here, and they don’t evolve, so after you’ve got a couple of good ones there isn’t much point in catching more.

Oooo, jealous!  :)

I would love that.  :)

Congrats on finishing the quest!  :)  You can go back and get the cat, btw; I can't remember which level exactly he's on, but he's off in a corner behind a crate or something, I think.

If I wasn't up to my neck in laundry and about to head out to do errands, I'd totally offer to jump in.  I have a mid-level Lifey that would be perfect.

Best of luck with it!  Maybe we'll try to meet up sometime in Wizard City.  :)

I confess, all three of us play, and we even occasionally splurge on Crowns.

We're super intermittent, though -- both my partner and I have a day job and a side gig, and even the Kid has a day job, so sometimes months go by, and then we realize it's time for the dreaded ten minutes of patching.  ;)

I have multiple characters, mostly so I can play with colors and costumes -- OMG the costumes are my favorite part.   And the pets.  And the mounts.  And...  ;)

For the Marleybone main quests, it's tons easier if you have a buddy to go in with you, because the clockwork monsters are hard to kill.  But I like Marleybone because it's so compact!  MooShu feels like miles and miles of just running around to get to where you're going, and it annoys me.

Entertaining and Hospitality / Re: Thanksgiving Dinner
« on: May 17, 2018, 11:57:38 am »
Just piping in to say that I also did this once, many years ago, and it's led to an annual tradition of Friendsgivings that I've hosted for many years.

It started because the friend I was sharing Thanksgiving with was dating a soldier, and he had asked if one or two of his buddies who were far from home and sick of mess-hall chow could also come over.  We pooled resources, cooked a huge turkey and a ham, and ended up with about five hungry soldiers mingled in with the rest of our guests, and we had a wonderful time!

Time marched on.  The base closed, I remarried and I moved a few times, but the tradition has lingered on.  Now that my parents are both gone, Friendsgiving is more important to me than ever.  I generally seat about 12-15 people every year, and I take the whole week off of work to prep and cook.  It's the highlight of my holiday season.  :)

I've made a point of letting friends know that, if they do have family obligations, they can escape afterwards and come by for pie, coffee, and a few rounds of Apples to Apples to end the holiday on a happier note.  I get a LOT of those quick visits at the end of the evening.  :)

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.  Sending gentle virtual hugs, and wishing you peace.

I never got into it so I’m quite out of the loop, but I’m a little suprised to hear that people still play! I thought it was a fad that burnt out.

It definitely burned out with the majority of the intended audience (millennials and younger).  Mostly these days I see people in their 30s and over at the raids or participating in the group events -- and also families with small children.  It's also a great fitness motivator because it tracks the walking that you do (it won't register faster speeds, like car speeds) so you have an idea of how much movement you're getting in.

They're doing a great job of slowly releasing new things to keep people interested/coming back, which is awesome.  :)

Hobbies / Re: Getting ready for Christmas 2018

I’ve just realised that while my idea of a Christmas menu can be broad, it is still apparently very traditional.

I was reading through Amara’s menu (which is full of tasty things I’d like to eat) and my brain just balked at the idea of steak for Christmas dinner. I love steak, but it just feels so wrong for Christmas! Is it just me?

You're not alone in having a set of expectations.  Our office held a potluck near either Thanksgiving or Christmas and I was the only one who brought anything remotely American traditional.  There was lasagna, and curry, and Vietnamese spring rolls, and a bunch of other stuff - none of which I tend to associate with Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner.

That said, my friends have celebrated Christmas at a steakhouse venue often enough that I don't have a response to the idea of steak at Christmas.

Oh man, I love those potlucks!  You get things like har gow dumplings, and lumpia, and flan, and samosas...  *happy moan*

For T-day and Xmas, though, I am all about the turkey, for sure.  :)

I'll start this one!  Who else plays?

Team Mystic here, but I am perfectly accepting of all Instincts and Valors alike.   :D

Who's caught their Mew already?  How are you doing on the latest Legendary raids?  Tell me all about it!  :)

Oh wow, this is a topic I really need right now!

This year, I want to make fruitcake.  Because there's nothing so awesome as good fruitcake.  But -- I hate those little glace cherries and candied citron and that sort of thing.  I want to do it all with dried fruits.  I can substitute out the fruits, no problem, but I desperately need a base recipe to start with.

Does anyone have a tried-and-true good fruitcake recipe?  Preferably something handed down for a few generations and involving copious amounts of liquor?

I have done a substantial amount of research and Googling for "old-fashioned" fruitcake recipes, but I really want something that I know has a good track record, so I don't waste six months anticipating something that's going to turn out to be crap.

Thanks in advance!

Announcements / Re: IMPORTANT INFORMATION--Ads, censored words, etc
« on: May 16, 2018, 05:58:54 pm »
I'd like to chime in with my thoughts about Ads (which I've been suppressing for a while) -- with the 'old' :'( site the Ads were so innocuous they were easy to ignore. There was absolutely no reason to block Ads on that site. A simple top/bottom banner Ad was all there was to it. No pop-ups, irritating videos that started playing without clicking on them which you couldn't turn off, no side-banners full of Ads . . . it was a very clean site with two Ads that changed wherever you clicked.

While I never clicked on the Ads themselves I sometimes found something interesting and went to google and searched from there.

I appreciate your viewpoint, jpcher, but...  a lot of people had issues with malware from ads on the old forum, even though the administration of that forum flatly denied it.  If it happened once, it certainly could happen again.  I was lucky enough to be reading the site at work, where ad blockers were mandatory, or I'd have been out a laptop too.

I say make donations completely voluntary and completely anonymous.  Put up a Paypal button, let people pitch in a buck or two, and then make an alert posting if the funds start running low.  That's how it works on other forums I'm on, and there hasn't been any problems with it so far.
