I don't have anything to contribute just yet, but now that you've started this thread, I'll give it a try.
It's not as easy in NYC, bcs our wildlife isn't that varied. (It is, however, accustomed to people.)

Reminded me of when my sister was in college. She lived in a house with maybe 10+ other students and several cats in a big city.
They didn't have to worry about the cats wandering all over the city because they planted cat nip around the perimeter of their yard. The cats never ventured outside of their yard.

I call this the most awesome insect on the planet. It's a hummingbird moth.
And here's a great blue heron.
