We are bringing home a new dog on the 18th. From what the foster family says she seems all around perfect. Name's Brit, a lab plott hound mix.

Yeah, I live with my mom. Her arthritis is worse than mine is so she couldn't use the rowing machine either.

Meh... I talked to my mom this afternoon first, and we got in a wee bit of a fight about the machine. I asked her about the exchange about the rowing machine she wanted to borrow, and she said they just suggested getting a new one then bought me a new one before they told her not to. I can find that believable because I have another brother that likes to push help on me, along with my mom, without actually listening to me or asking me how I want help. Its a family traits.

Now that I think about it my dads like that to.

My mom says she told them not to buy me the rowing machine. I figure that they must have gotten an Amazon Prime deal because it arrived a few days after Prime Day.

Thank you for posting all this advice. Glad I put this post on an etiquette board.

They might be able to exchange it. Its all going to be an awkward exchange for me because at the very least I am going to have to say mom doesn't listen to me without bringing up all the other stuff that is really just unnecessary information I wanted to get off my chest somewhere.

Family and Children / Received Rowing Machine

So this is a bit complicated, and a bit of an emotional issue for me as well as an etiquette issue. I just received a rowing machine from by brother and sister-in-law for my birthday, and it's not something I want and I don't think I can use it. My health background is that I m obese, I generally hover around 300 pounds, and I have rheumatoid arthritis with osteorarthritis always causing some damage in my body. I have asked my doctors before about exercise I should do, and when I asked about a rowing machine they said that is something I should not use.

My mom has wanted me to try and use my brother and sister in law's rowing machine, a wooden one that they haven't used in years. I told her that if I wanted to get her an exercise machine I would rather have gotten a treadmill anyway. Well I guess she asked them enough that they decided to get my a rowing machine.

I really don't want this, and I'm not sure how to respond it it. The machine was at least 300 dollars also so I don't know where to start.

Soup.

I'm trying to lose weight, and part of that is trying to break the habit of a big, carb-heavy evening meal.

These recipes on Soup Addict are pretty good.

I'm going to try making some Moroccan Chicken Soup tomorrow night, I did it last week with my brother and sister-in-law so I hope it turns out good a second time.

Thank you the information. Defrosting the fish went good, though the meal itself did not because I forgot to pat dry the fish before taking off the skin and I destroyed the salmon unfortunately.

Did you cook it anyway and make salmon salad out of it?  (Just like tuna salad, but with your fish instead.)

I'm now a big fan of creamy salads so unfortunately I didn't try that, though I will consider it next time.

Food / Dutch Oven
« on: November 11, 2019, 08:35:28 pm »
I got my first dutch oven, a 2.6 Quart Flame Ware Dutch oven. Essentially its pottery with a glaze that is made to withstand temperature changes. The instructions on the website say the you should slowly heat the food your working with, but what about spaghetti and rice that require an initial high heat. With my mom's aluminum pans I would just turn the heat on super high to get them to boil, but I don't know if I should do that with this pot. A slow to high boil would work with spaghetti, but I'm not sure about the rice. Any suggestions?
